Mary had a Little Lambchop

Baby Storytime Fun: Mary had a Little Lamb (extra verses) | reflectivemama.com

We love Baby Storytime. The more we go, the more I remember fun rhyming songs to sing at home throughout the week. My current favorite is Mary had a Little Lamb. Yes, I knew this song long before we first attended Baby Storytime… or so I thought. I never knew that there were more than two verses until now. Ever since I saw them on the PowerPoint, they have been on in a loop in my head:

Mary had a little lamb,

Little lamb, little lamb,

Mary had a little lamb,

Its fleece was white as snow

And everywhere that Mary went,

Mary went, Mary went,

Everywhere that Mary went

The lamb was sure to go

It followed her to school one day

School one day, school one day

It followed her to school one day

Which was against the rules.

It made the children laugh and play,

Laugh and play, laugh and play,

It made the children laugh and play

To see a lamb at school

Before I wrote this post, I Googled the song to double check that I had all the words right. All of the verses on the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences website (luckily with an unknown copyright). Alas, there’s even four more verses after the ones above (which I don’t have memorized… yet). For the rest of the song, visit the NIEHS Kids Pages.

Of all the songs we’ve sung (Polly Put the Kettle On, Hickory Dickory Dock, Rain Rain Go Away, Jack & Jill, A-tisket, A-tasket, Humpty Dumpty, and so on), I’ve been singing Mary has a Little Lamb on repeat because it finally gave me some ammunition to block my husband’s taunts. He prefers to sing his own (very annoying) version of the rhyme:

Mary had a little lamb,

Little lamb, little lamb,

Mary had a little lamb,

And it was quite delicious.

Why does his take bother me so much? I refuse to eat lamb. They’re too cute and cuddly. Not cool, hubby, not cool.

What’s the last baby song you had stuck in your head?
